Filters are made to be Replaced, a Cap is on for life!

Compare Gutter Protection systems before buying

You know that you don’t want to clean your gutters several times per year. You may not be sure how to solve the problem, though. When you look at gutter protection solutions, there are a dizzying number of options available, and you can see by reading online reviews that some options are better than others.

Let us offer you a professional opinion from the team here at Gutter Cap. We have many years of experience working on home gutters. We were so dissatisfied with the effectiveness of gutter protection solutions on the market that we designed our own.

Here are the pros and cons of different gutter protection and leaf filter materials available for purchase:

Pros and Cons of Different Gutter Protection Materials

Sponge Gutter Filters: Gutter sponges are a shaped polyurethane sponge that is inserted into the top of your existing gutters. Water is able to flow through the porous sponge material, while most debris cannot. The sponge does not typically have a perfect fit, allowing small amounts of debris to lay stagnant in the gutter. The systems are also not very durable, needing replacement every several years.

Brush Gutter Filters: Similar to a sponge-based gutter filter, brush gutter filters are a wire brush that you insert into your gutters. While typically inexpensive, this solution is also very porous, allowing small and medium sized debris to collect in your gutter. You can also see the system from the ground level, which adds an unattractive look as the black bristles pop out of your gutters.

Metal Screen Gutter Guards: Screen-based gutter guards clip on top of your gutter and slot in underneath your first roof shingle. Available in either plastic or metal, gutter screens offer medium protection against gutter debris. Small debris can often beat the filter, including seeds which can sprout in your gutter. Special measures need to be taken to protect the system from high winds, otherwise they can be blown off in stormy weather – right when you need them most!

Micro Mesh Gutter Guards: A refinement of the screen-based gutter guard system. Unlike basic clip-on gutter screens, micro mesh screens allow for the filtering of finer debris. The struggle, though, is to balance the ability to filter debris with the ability to remain unclogged by debris. With finer filters, the system is more vulnerable to being overwhelmed with debris and requiring cleaning, or causing leaks.

Why Gutter Cap

Fundamentally, all of the above materials require tradeoffs that we do not feel comfortable making. If the leaf filter sits on top of or inside of your gutter, you are balancing two equally important design considerations. The system needs a fine filter to prevent even small debris from clogging your gutters, but needs to be open enough to allow water to flow through and to avoid clogs on top of the gutter system. The core design principals of these filter types make them ineffective.

That’s why we invented Gutter Cap! By using a solid metal cap, we create a small “bump” over your gutter. Water flows seamlessly over it due to the liquid physics and surface tension of rain runoff. The water is safely captured by your gutters and redirected by your downspouts.

Debris does not flow in the same way, and is instead caught by our Gutter Cap. After the storm, when the debris dries in the sun, it simply blows away on the next breeze. Since it is not caught in a brush or a mesh filter, it doesn’t take much wind to clean your filters – your average breezy day will do it! With this superior engineering, you just don’t have to worry about your filter failing or being overwhelmed. Our designers thought of every possibility! Not only that, our system pairs seamlessly with our Heater Cap system to prevent the seasonal threat of ice dams, adding further protection to your gutters.

Attractive & Durable Gutter Protection

How Gutter Cap Works

Gutter Cap installs over the first row of shingles and gutter.  The majority of debris is pushed off by the wind.  The remainder is flushed off through the principle of surface tension.  Rainwater adheres to the Gutter Cap and drains into the gutter while the debris falls to the ground.

The Gutter Cap Advantage

There is consumer awareness that metal dome gutter protection systems are the most effective.  Gutter Cap takes the design even further with a fully rounded nose, and a patented trough system.  Gutter Cap has an installation training facility available in Chicago.  All installers that have passed the rigorous training course become factory certified.

Gutter Cap Installation

Gutter Cap can be installed on almost any type of roof, shingle type, and pitch from flat roofs to mansards.  The patented design allows gutter cap to mount directly to the lip of the gutter without the use of clumsy brackets or clips.  The panel follows the contour of the roof and blends in with the roofline making it practically invisible.
